Keolis Downer proudly marks the 10th anniversary of operating the Gold Coast Light Rail, in partnership with GoldlinQ and the Queensland Government. Over the past decade, G:link has revolutionised public transport on the Gold Coast, moving over 85 million passengers since 2014 and G:link trams have travelled over 15 million kilometres.
“Congratulations to the Queensland Government, GoldlinQ and our local team on this significant achievement,” said Julien Dehornoy, CEO of Keolis Downer. “G:link has been instrumental in delivering a step change in public transport use on the Gold Coast. Earlier this year, patronage figures revealed light rail usage is over 110% of pre-COVID levels, making it the highest-ranked public transport mode in Queensland.”
G:link has not only enhanced connectivity across the region but has also played a pivotal role in the growth of the region. This milestone is a testament to the successful collaboration between Keolis Downer, the Queensland Government and GoldlinQ, ensuring reliable and efficient transport solutions for the local community and visitors.
As we celebrate this occasion, we look back at some key achievements over the past decade:
Stage 2 Extension: In December 2017, the 7.3 km extension was launched, allowing passengers to connect with train services to Brisbane through Helensvale station, providing an integrated transport solution for travelers in Queensland.
2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games: Almost 100,000 passengers travelled every day on the G:link trams during the event, totalling more than 1.1 million passengers. This was almost four times the usual patronage numbers since the opening of Stage 2 of the light rail project.
Since beginning operations in 2014, G:link has consistently performed highly with results of 96% punctuality and 99.69% reliability and over 88% customer satisfaction.
Keolis Downer is committed to continuing to deliver safe, inclusive, and sustainable transport services and looks forward to its continued partnership with the Queensland Government and GoldlinQ as we gear up for Stage 3 extension in the coming years.
